While the units appear to have been recently renovated they are generally small and the facilities minimal. We booked the unit on the basis that it was advertised as having 2 bedrooms (1 x queen and 2 x singles) and 2 singles in the lounge. What we found in the lounge was a fold out couch which was inconvenient and extremely uncomfortable. Given the small size of the lounge and the unit in general it is doubtful that beds should be provided in the lounge. Fortunately we were only staying one night as more would have been unacceptable. In addition i had a frustrating discussion with the operators about their misrepresenting the number of beds on travelbug. Overall we found the motel to be small and not good value for money. We would not stay again. Having stayed in other Oamaru motels on previous occasions I found the setback from the main road proved to be a quieter enviorment than the more modern units in the town.
On the downside the ammenities are quite dated and the hollow concrete block construction allows for considerable noise transmition from pipework in adjacent units.
Over all I found the Colonial to be reasonably priced and adequate for requirements.I will stay there again :)
