Wanting to experience life on a Kiwi farm and see how the locals live? Our Farmstay/Homestay is located less than a 10 minute drive from historic Oamaru, where we farm beef cattle and a small flock of sheep on 200 acres. Our convenient location close to Oamaru makes sightseeing a breeze, and at the end of the day you can relax in a tranquil rural setting.

Our menagerie of pets include friendly sheep, 3 working dogs, our 2 house cats Tansy & Prim, alpaca, Greta the naughty goat, pigs, chickens and ducks. During late August to early October we rear calves and guests are more than welcome to pitch in and help.

There are two accommodation options at Gumtree Farmstay. We offer hosted B&B in the house and there is also a shepherd's hut separate from the home which accommodates two adults.

In the home we have the Ardgowan and Airedale Rooms which both contain a king bed (or can become 2 single beds if required). A single trundle bed can also be placed in the Ardgowan Room for a third person.

Guest Share bathroom with shower and bathtub, heated towel rail and hairdryer. Separate Guest Share toilet. Quality bedding, electric blankets, towels, bathrobes and locally made artisan soap provided.

A continental breakfast of assorted cereals, toast, fruits, yoghurt, homemade scones, juice, tea/coffee is included in the tariff. Limited free wifi. Providing the weather is agreeable and time permits we will also take you on a short walking Afternoon Farm Tour to meet and feed some of the animals.

We invite you to relax in our shared lounge area and there is a TV and small selection of dvds available to watch should you wish.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS:
* Sheep Shearing Demonstration. Please contact us for prices and availability. Due to work commitments and weather conditions this is not always available - mention at time of booking.
* 2 course Kiwi style evening meal shared with our family - a great way to get to know one another - enquire for rates.

Kitchen facilties are NOT available, you may however store food in our fridge.

Due to stairs and hills our home is not wheelchair friendly. Facilities unsuitable for children under 3 years of age.

The second option is The Shepherd's Rest which is a 7m x 2.4m shepherd's hut separate from the home. It contains a queen size bed, kitchenette with basic cooking equipment and bathroom with COMPOSTING toilet. Provisions for a Continental Breakfast are included. There is power but NO WIFI or Animal Feeding (the animal feeding is available for an extra fee). The hut is suitable for a maximum of 2 adults and no children allowed.

Victorian Oamaru is so close - view the penguins, experience SteamPunk, visit Oamaru's many art galleries and craft shops which are located in the Heritage part of town, relax in the wonderful public gardens, plan day trips to Moeraki Boulders & Elephant Rocks. Sample the local cheese or on a Sunday visit the Farmer's Market. Eat out in Oamaru's fantastic restaurants.
